About the title

A ogni uccello il suo nido è bello,” literally translated into English, means “To every bird, his home is beautiful.”  It’s an Italian saying taken to mean something similar to our English saying “There’s no place like home” or, similarly, “Home is where the heart is.”

My reasoning for using this title is that while my heart is here in Richmond, at home with my family and friends, there is also a part of my heart that is linked to Italy and my heritage.  While I was living and studying in Italy in 2013, I explored the differences between my personal knowledge of the rural Abruzzese Italian culture of my grandmother’s family and today’s multilayered, urban Italian lifestyle.
